Wyeast 1450 - Denny's Favorite 50

Anyone brew with this yeast yet? It looks pretty versatile and good for harvesting the yeast for future brewing of various styles.

Yes, if that is the same thing as CL-50 which I believe it is. It used to be available from a yeast bank in Colorado. I have slants of the original, but they are probably dead by now....been at least 5 years since I grew any up.

Anyways, I used it for Denny's famous rye ipa, at least one barleywine with Gary and Doug, a few porters, and probably some others. It's kind of a utilitarian yeast that works for just about every american style, like the Chico yeast. I wouldn't be surprised if the original is a chico yeast derivative.

hope this helps

It's a nice yeast but I've had some attenuation issues with it. It made one killer American stout that I'm sad is gone.
A good brew will quench the parched soul
