Wyeast 3944 Belgian Witbier or White Labs WLP400?

I believe I've only used Wyeast.

How do you rank them?

I haven't used them side by side nor tasted them side by side, but according to this Yeast Strain Chart they are both the same strain. Although I am sure there are some differences depending on when and how both Wyeast and WL obtained the strains.

Yeah, the same strain thing is funny because they started out the same but they certainly haven't stayed the same unless Wyeast and White Labs are harvesting from each other.

I actually have a wit in primary fermentation now using the wyeast. Does anyone have one now with the white labs? We could do a side by side during november's meeting. I was planning on bringing it anyway.
I guess it wouldn't be the ideal comparison since they would be 2 different batches but maybe we could pick up on some yeast characteristics that are different between the two. For what it's worth, i used Jamil's recipe from Brewing Classic Styles. Smells terrific, too, by the way!!

I've only ever used the WYeast. Personally, I don't think my pallet is refined enough to pick up differences between two strains of yeast that are from the same original strain.

I've used both and have gotten very similar results from both. I would consider them interchangeable.

Thanks Augie. I will take that as gospel and use what I find.
