I had citra at home and agree, it's not Citra. I have a full bag of Centennial but didn't want to crack it open just to do a sniff test comparison.

I thought I smelled some dank so Columbus was my first choice. After smelling some more I also thought maybe they are Amarillo.

I'm going to do a single hop pale ale soon with these and then decide.

Either way, they are fresh and smell awesome! At $2 a lb it's a hellava deal regardless.

Yeah I agree on the bit of dank but they also put me in mind of a batch of German magnum. They also looked like them with the smaller pellet size. They do smell really good and I am thinking about (10 gallon batch) 20 lbs munich mashed low with 1 oz addition every 15 min to get the full hop flavor. Would the munich be too much to taste the hop?

Did you brew with these yet Brad? Pete brewed a single hop beer and he seems to think they might be Simcoe based on the aroma from the kettle during the boil.

Hopefully he'll bring some to the meeting if it's finished.

If they are indeed Simcoe I will be a very happy camper.

I just brewed with them yesterday. I had some older Cascade hops that I compared them to. They seemed pretty similar.

I thought Paul said originally that these are aroma/flavor hops and not bittering. I assumed Simcoe would be considered bittering? I used them exclusively for the last 15 and 0 additions.

Anyway, you're welcome to taste the final product. Hopefully I'll avoid making another apple ale.

If they're Simcoe, lots of brewers use those for aroma/flavor even though they have high a pretty Alpha % (12-14%). They can give a grapefruit/tangerine kind of citrus note, similar to Summit but more interesting than Cascade imo. Simcoe mix really well with Cascade.

I did back-to-back APAs with Simcoe and Summit a few years ago, and the Simcoe was more grapefruit and the Summit was more tangerine. I'm looking forward to hearing what people get out of these, and plan to do an APA with them soon as well. If they're even close to Simcoe, I'll be bugging Paul again if he's got any more left.

I dry hopped with it after 1 week, so whatever it is...there's plenty of it in there.
I'm kegging it this weekend. I hope it's good.

I got this in the keg last night. It has a very pleasant flavor, but the aroma is just not as big as I would expect with using 2 oz. of dry-hops.

What type of aroma and flavor are you getting from it?

You're asking the wrong dude. I'm a bad taster. I would say more spicy and piney than citrus.

I did not dry hop the Munich smash but I did the following schedule on a 10 gallon batch

.7oz - 60 min
.8oz - 45 min
.9oz - 30 min
1.0oz - 15 min
1.2oz - 0 min

Not bitter at all so I am thinking lower alpha and no citrus character. Herbal/Piney mostly. The worst thing is it is a really good beer now I have to figure out what these are. Definitely low AA.
