Use a fermentation bucket to collect your wort...it is marked of in one gallon intervals.

OR

You can do either of the methods that Drew mentioned above...

Some people have their kettle fitted with a sight glass, whereas I use the super high-tech dipstick method. My carboys are calibrated with markings on the outside as well.


I also use the dipstick (oak dowel) method. Use a 2 quart pitcher of water dumped in your kettle to mark your half gallon increments with notches on the schtick.

I may have missed it, but what method are you using for the sparge? Is this a batch or fly sparge?
