Crown Valley Competition

Postby beermikester » Fri Aug 27, 2010 7:10 am

Crown Valley Brewery in Ste. Genevieve is having a homebrew competition on November 27 that structured a bit different than most I've seen. In addition to the normal requirment to submit 2 12 oz bottles for judging, contestants must show up in person to give out samples of their beer to the general public. There are only five categories in which to enter - Belgian Ale, Porter, IPA, Fruit Lambic, and Traditional Bock.

It doesn't look to be BJCP/AHA sanctioned, but since it is so close, I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone might be interested. More information can be found at the following link:

On Tap: IPA
Lagering: Kolsch, Dusseldorf Alt
Fermenting: APA, Belgian Blonde

Waiting on approval to serve at Heritage Festival: IPA, Kolsch, Dusseldorf Alt

Sounds like they're fishing for their next couple of beers to brew...

Wait a minute - that's Thanksgiving Saturday! Are they crazy?

On the other hand, if you enter you might stand a pretty good chance at winning.
Serving - "Close Enough" Bigfoot Barleywine Clone, JD RIS (jealous?), Hard Apple Cider, American Wheat Ale, Nut Brown Ale, & commercial samples...
Carbonating -
Primary - Belgian Blonde
On Deck - American Wheat Ale
In the hole - AIPA

The prize?
The Homebrew Master will have their winning beer featured at the Crown Valley's Brewmaster Dinner, taking place Fall 2011

Is that it?

It did say there is prize for first in each category. So I'm assuming they at least give out ribbons or something.

How much would you bring to cover both the judges and public?

Good question. It says you have to bring a minimum of 24 oz. for the judging, but there is no minimum for the general public. I have no idea how big of an event this is or how many people attend. If you're thinking of going, it would probably be a good idea to call first.
