The St. Louis Brewers Heritage Festival 2008

Postby DStauder » Wed Feb 13, 2008 11:02 pm

This year's Heritage Festival is taking shape. I am going to need some volunteers to brew on Friday and Saturday. I am looking for 8 to 10 brewers willing to help brew a few batches of beer on those days and talk about the process as well as promote the club.

The organizers have been kind enough to include us in planning the event this year to our benefit. They are willing to help us promote membership and so I would like to get as much involvement as I possibly can from everyone in the club.

They have discussed last year's event and are taking steps to improve this year's event greatly. I will have lots of details at the March meeting. In the mean time if you have suggestions or ideas please send them to me and I will forward them along to the project team.

Thanks,

Dan Stauder

*raises hand*

I'll be one of the 8-10 brewers needed.

I didn't realize that we could brew one session and serve beer at a different session.

If we can do that I would be game.

Likewise.

EDIT: I plan to work the fest dishin' up beer again as well (if they'll have me) so I'm assuming it would be possible to brew one day and sever the next.

I also would like to join in this festivity, in the same context as Ben.

I think should have some flyers about the club printed to distribute to people at the event.

I'd like to brew, or help brew or whatever. Guess I need to find a way to mask my butchered AB keggle though

Yeah, I have the same issue Dan, I'm thinking some type of thermal wrapping.

Not to step on any toes, but I have a suggestion. I assume we know what variety we plan to brew that day? Any chance of brewing up several gallons in advance and serving it from the brewing demo tent? It would be pretty cool to say, "We are brewing XXXXX, here is what it will taste like when it's done". I assume we have several kegs waiting to be sold that we could use, I have a ton of grain that is getting a bit dated, and I'd be happy to have an excuse to make a jukebox.

I had a blast at this last year and can't wait for it again this year! I'm game to help by brewing, serving, or whatever... Just one question, before I get committed to anything I need to know dates!

My guess would be that the folks in charge would probably frown on this....but then again, I hope I'm wrong. It'd be fun to taste Augies homebrewed Wit side by side with the festival beer.

If this becomes a problem, my "keggle" doesn't have any markings. I'd be willing to loan it out as long as it comes back.

Keggles? Kettles

Postby Hopking » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:17 pm

We have 4 kettles that belong to no brewing companies. We have a 35 gal (no handles), 2-25 gallon kettles and 1-20 gallon kettle. They are not converted from kegs. I would just need to earmark them for that particular day. My partners and I would probably entertain the idea of brewing also, which I assume would gain us entrance to the event, correct? Are club members on the hook for all ingredients?

BTW, what weekend is this event?

I'd be up for helping or brewing as well. I have a basic turkey fryer setup of 5 gallons, not currently using a keggle.

Just curious, would the homebrewed beer styles need to be akin to the Fest style or traditional/historic St. Louis beer styles or just whatever the homebrewer decides?

Count me in! I'd like to serve beer, haul kegs around, brew beer (for the event or during it), or discuss the process/techniques with attendees.
Serving - "Close Enough" Bigfoot Barleywine Clone, JD RIS (jealous?), Hard Apple Cider, American Wheat Ale, Nut Brown Ale, & commercial samples...
Carbonating -
Primary - Belgian Blonde
On Deck - American Wheat Ale
In the hole - AIPA
