What is your favorite Polish hop?

Postby seymour » Tue Jun 03, 2014 1:15 pm

That's it: name your favorite type of hops bred and grown in Poland. These aren't as widely-known, but you've come across more than you realize, and Schlafly uses them a lot so you've tasted them even without realizing it.

Polish Magnum, Marynka, Lublin, Lubelski, Junga/Lunga, Sybilla, Lomic, Oktawia, etc.

Discuss. Recipes and/or hopping schedules would be even better. As always, rebuttals to other posts are welcome, but don't forget to make your case with some background info of your own.

Cheers!

No one? Okay I'll go first:

I really like Marynka, which Schlafly uses sometimes as a bittering hop, but I think it's a good all-purpose hop: bitterness, flavour, and aroma. To me, it's like a bigger, bolder Saaz-type: grassy, black-peppery, resiny, with hints of black licourice and juniper.

I've used Polish Magnum too, though I couldn't tell it from any other version of Magnum. I really enjoyed Junga too as an all-purpose hop.

Anyone else wanna share their experience with Polish hops?
